Meeting Jeff Foxworthy
In 2001, while I was still in college, I had the chance to work behind the scenes in radio as the Assistant Promotions Director for Greenville’s WROQ and WTPT. It was a fast-paced job that came with some unforgettable perks, especially when big events rolled through town.
One of the highlights of that year was the Blue Collar Comedy Tour’s stop in the area. Thanks to the job, I was able to get backstage passes for my family, giving us all the chance to go behind the curtain before the show and meet Jeff Foxworthy in person. Never knew he was so tiny.
This was at the start of the tour before it all blew up into the huge thing it became. Larry the Cable Guy was walking around backstage, and at that time, he was relatively unknown. Because of the way he was dressed, we just assumed he was one of the stagehands and not part of the show. Who knew he’d be famous one day…
