This was our first Pride Parade, and we didn’t know what to expect, given the number of hate organizations in Spartanburg, South Carolina. While there were a few “churches” protesting, there were no incidents. This was the first one in Upstate South Carolina, to my knowledge. Over 5000 people showed up to march.
We were attending the Spartanburg Unitarian Universalist Congregation at that point, and they had a major hand in organizing the event. All-in-all, it was a pleasant day other than the heat. South Carolina in the middle of June. Who made that decision? 😛
