2008 August – Whitewater Rafting

Converse Graduation Whitewater Rafting on the Nantahala

After completing my Master of Marriage and Family Therapy Degree, several of the graduates decided to have a celebratory trip down the Nantahala River for whitewater rafting. We chose not to hire a guide, since being fresh graduate students, we were all broke.

For those of you not familiar, one of the duties of a whitewater rafting guide is to direct the rest of the rafters on when to paddle, which direction to go, and how fast. With a boatload of therapists and their partners, nobody was willing to take charge, so you can imagine how that turned out: “How do you feel about taking the left fork of the river?”

Fortunately, we all survived the trip, but you can probably see the confusion on some of our faces.
